Making conventional portraits of them seemed an inadequate depiction of what I had experienced. But the juxtaposition of their handwritten notes, often the first time the inspirations and words were committed to paper, seemed like I was able to add an extra dimension to the portraiture not otherwise attainable.

Idiosyncrasies and soul qualities were introduced and added to their physical presence and gesture.

As one viewer commented, "Three or four dimensions have been created and collapsed into a two dimensional image".
