Portfolios Overtones In Their Own Words Landscapes I Landscapes II People We Dream Alone Southwest Still Life I Still Life II |
The formal elements of line, form, texture, pattern and colour are central to these compositions. Vestiges of the real world, or the external factors, only play a secondary role. Close observation in the world leads to a shift in perception and this allows seeing visual structures. A painter must place his or her image onto a blank canvas, conversely a photographer must start with the busyness and complexity of the world and try to bring it to order through a process of selection and composition, finally arriving at a distillation and the photograph. It is not the subject that determines the picture but rather the placement of forms and lines within the four edges of the frame that creates a subject. The image is an articulation of the visual elements. |
