Portfolios Overtones In Their Own Words Landscapes I Landscapes II People We Dream Alone Southwest Still Life I Still Life II |
I was first introduced to this landscape by John Ford's iconic films. Later, I saw it again through the eyes of great artists like Paul Strand and Wim Wenders, and each time it held a very special and magical quality for me. I visited the area, and found an inspiring mix of Native American presence and spirituality, remnants of the Spanish conquest, United States cultural detritus, and an air of mystery, in an awesome landscape. Strong etheric forces hug this land. Adobe structures coexist with cheap motels, and route 66 runs alongside dust trails to nowhere. A rich tapestry is woven that has inspired artists for a century. |
