Concrete is the most dominant material in our culture. It's underfoot, overhead and all around us. I decided to abstract the material and remove it from its architectural and engineered environments of highways and buildings, by making these forms which I could then bring to a studio situation to explore under controlled light and compositions. I am fascinated by its roots in limestone which in turn has its origins in calcified crustaceans. Now, concrete is a hard, brittle and dead material generally viewed as the antithesis of organic life.
